Welcome to the Perinatal Mental Health for Nurses & Midwives online CPD program. The total program will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

The program is structured into three modules:

Module One - Provides background information about the potential mental health issues surrounding pregnancy and motherhood, including post natal depression, domestic violence, unintended pregnancy and grief and loss. We also address the options and possible outcomes that should be considered where someone is unsure about whether or not to continue their pregnancy.

Module Two – Provides an overview of a non-directive approach towards working with women in the perinatal period who may experience mental health issues.

Module Three – Provides an opportunity to develop self-awareness around your own attitudes, values and beliefs surrounding pregnancy and the perinatal period, unintended pregnancy and termination of pregnancy, in order to move more effectively counsel the woman.

Assessment – After reading through each of the 3 modules, there is an assessment to be completed. In order to successfully complete the course and receive CPD points and a certificate of participation, you must submit 100% correct responses.

Evaluation At the end of the course you are asked to complete an evaluation to help us to ensure that the program is effective and provides participants with all the information they require to support their clinical practice with women in the perinatal period.

Certificate of Participation - Once you have completed the short Assessment/Quiz at the end of Module 3, you will be eligible for a Certificate of Participation (3 CPD Points). This Certificate will be emailed to you within 14 days of completing the assessment.

Credentialed Mental Health Nurses who successfuly undertake this program will be eligible to provide 3 sessions of non-directive counselling to women in the perinatal period who are referred under MBS Item Number 81010. To do this, the ACMHN needs to notify Medicare Australia when the course has been completed successfully. Midwives who are members of the Australian College of Midwives can claim 3 MidPLUS points on presentation of your Certificate of Participation. The ACMHN will provide the ACM with a list of successful participants on a monthly basis.
