Clinical Supervision Position Statement

It is the position of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses Inc that:

  • Clinical Supervision is a core component of contemporary professional mental health nursing practice and central to practicing within the ACMHN Standards of Practice for Australian Mental Health Nurses: 2010.
  • Mental health service employers positively support and actively promote demonstrably efficacious Clinical Supervision, through organisational policies, procedures and workplace culture.
  • All mental health nurses, and nurses working in mental health facilities, be fully orientated to Clinical Supervision upon entry to the mental health workforce and thereafter engage in sustained and meaningful Clinical Supervision, whatever their role and wherever they practice.
  • Supervisors access appropriate bona fide educational preparation for this role and, whether Clinical Supervision is delivered in dyads or within groups.
  • Regular systematic evaluations of the quality and efficacy of Clinical Supervision arrangements be undertaken at local service level.
  • The ACMHN undertakes to actively promote each of these positions and lobby funding agencies to consider large-scale robust programs of outcomes-related research at State and National levels, to further strengthen the evidence base of Clinical Supervision and to justify continued investment of public funds.

Under this item number, on referral from a GP, women can claim 3 sessions with a credentialed mental health nurses at a rebate of $59.85 per session.

  • Hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent

South West Healthcare’s Mental Health Services is in the final preparation stages for the opening of the new PARC facility and are keen to secure an experienced Occupational Therapist in a full or part time ongoing capacity.  You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for the assessment and treatment of consumers and their families, in order to help them achieve their personal recovery goals.

The PARC is a supported recovery orientated mental health residential facility which provides an option for people who are becoming unwell or who are in the early stages of their recovery and would benefit from a short period of additional support (up to 28 days), to strengthen their biological, psychological and social well-being.

You are an Occupational Therapist with experience providing occupational therapy services in a mental health or similar setting, who has a desire to assist in recovery goals in relation to clients’ mental health, personal, domestic and community daily living skills.

You will be supported by our team of experienced mental health professionals, receive regular clinical supervision.  With a collaborative approach with Mind Australia, you will lead a team of like minded individuals providing client centred care to consumers and their families.

CONSULTATION LIAISON NURSE (RPN 4)

Are you a Registered Nurse with Post Graduate qualifications in Mental Health?

South West Healthcare’s Mental Health Services Division is seeking an experienced mental health nurse to fill the role as Consultation Liaison Nurse (CLN). This exciting new role will support the health service in managing mental health issues experienced by patients within the general hospital.

Working within the Mental Health Access Team and alongside the Mental Health medical team, you will focus on improving outcomes in patient care from a mental health perspective through working directly with patients and indirectly through increasing the capacity of staff to recognise and attend to the mental health needs of patients in these settings.

You will act as a link between generalist and mental health services. You will also deliver education and support to the general hospital setting, initially in Warrnambool, as well developing relationships and providing support and links between other hospitals within the region. Your role as CLN will be integral in the development of the new Consultation Liaison Service at SWHC. Initially you will undertake the development and implementation of the CL Service.

The Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC) program is funded by the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network and will be responsible for providing highly flexible, timely and accessible support to consumers who experience a mental illness and have complex needs.
