Board of Credentialing
Credential for Practice Program

Board of Credentialing
The Board of Credentialing was established in September 2004 at the International Conference in Canberra. Members of the previous Credentialing Steering Committee, established in 1999, continued to serve as the inaugural Board for a further 2 years. Following consultations in 2006, the Board was re-constituted in line with the College strategic direction. The Board is accountable to College Council.

Membership
The Board is made up of 7 members, including the Chair. Up to 5 members of the Board are drawn from the membership of the College. Two external independent members are appointed one of whom is required to be a consumer. The College President is an ex-officio member of the Board, as is the Executive Officer.

Members must be credentialed or working towards being credentialed. They are selected on skills, experience and commitment required for an effective Board team. An ideal mix of members practicing in a variety of settings is sought, and may include a clinician, academic, manager and nurse practitioner or practice nurse with experience in primary health care, all within the mental health field.

Functions
The primary functions of the Board are to provide good governance, strategic development, review policies and operations. The Board is responsible for audit procedures and appeals, and is accountable to Council. The Board is not directly involved in promotion and marketing, application processing and reviewing, training, day to day operations, management and general administration of the credentialing program.

The Board works closely with the Executive Officer on the management of the Credential for Practice Program and advises the College Council on issues related to credentialing. Council members are not be eligible to hold a position on the Board.

Meetings
The Board meets either bi-monthly or quarterly, depending on workload. Meetings may be in the form of teleconference and face to face meetings.
