ABOUT HUNTER REGIONAL BRANCH Providing continuing professional education and practice development through quality local seminars, workshops, conferences, awards, professional networks and general meetings. The Hunter Sub-Branch enjoys a high local profile within the Newcastle-Hunter community, and high membership and participation within the mental health nursing workforce. We work in partnership with a number of key agencies including: Hunter New England Mental Health, the University of Newcastle - School of Nursing & Midwifery, Lingard Private Hospital, NGO’s and other service providers - Supporting mental health in our community. A Hunter Sub-Branch Executive is elected annually by local members, providing management and leadership of all local operations and wider representation of College and professional issues at State and national levels. Our members (mental health nurses) work throughout metropolitan districts of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland, and rural communities including Morisset, Cessnock, Port Stephens, Lower and Upper Hunter. Mental health nurses work in the public and private health sectors, hospital, community, primary health care/general practice and tertiary education across clinical, management, health administration, research, and education fields. The majority of mental health nurses are employed by Hunter New England Health (Mental Health), in hospital and community multi-disciplinary teams, providing clinical and nursing services to people and their families with mental illness. This includes a range of specialist services from child and adolescence to older people, acute adult psychiatry, rehabilitation, dual diagnosis alcohol & drug services, and forensic psychiatry. Wherever there is a need for mental health services, there are mental health nurses working in partnership with other health care professionals, families and non-government agencies.
