MHN Incentive Program

Mental health nurses will have the opportunity to embark on a new career path with greater job opportunities while providing coordinated clinical care for people with severe mental disorders under new funding arrangements commencing 1 July 2007.

The Australian Government will provide funding of $191.6 million over five years, through the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program.

This initiative program will provide non-MBS incentive payments to eligible community based general practices, private psychiatry services and other appropriate organisations (such as Divisions of General Practice or Aboriginal Medical Services) who engage mental health nurses to coordinate treatment and care for people with serious mental illness and complex needs.
