The ACMHN Award program includes the Mental Health Nurse of the Year 2012 and the Mental Health Nurse Achievement Award 2012. See below for criteria and application packages

The Award

The purpose of the Mental Health Nurse Achievement Award (MHNAA) is to recognise publicly the achievements of mental health nurses, encourage professional development amongst mental health nurses, and promote the importance of mental health nursing as a speciality.

The MHNAA will be awarded to a mental health nurse who is beginning to be recognised nationally for their leadership as a clinician, manager, educator or researcher. For example, early career researchers, clinicians, managers or educators who are making innovative changes in practice or pushing the boundaries of scope of practice.

ACMHN will provide the winner with a registration, airfare and accommodation to its International Conference, 2012. In addition, co-sponsor Curtin University, WA will provide a cash prize of $1,000.

 

Timeline

  • Nomination package available 30 March 2012.
  • Promotion of the award will be conducted from April to July.
  • Nominations must be received at ACMHN by 23 July 2012.
  • The nominations will be forwarded to Mental Health Nurse of the Year Selection Committee
  • The Selection Committee will make a selection by 12 August 2012.
  • Nominees will be advised of the outcome and the winner will be advised by the Chair of the Committee/President of the College by 17 August 2012.
  • The award will be made at a special event during ACMHN International Annual Conference in October 2012

Nomination Process

  • Mental health nurses practising in any capacity in mental health may be considered for the award.
  • Two nominators are required to nominate a candidate.
  • One nomination must come from a current member of the ACMHN
  • A second nomination may come from a consumer, carer, mental health nurse, or non-mental health nursing colleague.

Do you know a colleague that has accomplished an outstanding role as a mental health nurse? The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) extends an invitation to all members for nominations for the Mental Health Nurse of the Year.

This prestigious award was established in 2008 to publicly recognise the achievements of mental health nurses, encourage professional development amongst mental health nurses, and promote the importance of mental health nursing as a specialty.

The ACMHN Mental Health Nurse of the Year prize will consist of full registration, including travel and accommodation, to attend the Annual International Conference of the ACMHN. In addition, co-sponsor Wiley-Blackwell will provide a cash prize of $1,000 and a book voucher for $1,000.

 

2012 Timeline

    Nomination package available 30 March 2012.

  • Nominations must be received at ACMHN by COB 23 July 2012.
  • The nominations will be forwarded to Mental Health Nurse of the Year Selection Committee
  • The Selection Committee will make a selection by 12 August 2012.
  • Nominees will be advised of the outcome and the winner will be advised by the Chair of the Committee/President of the College by 17 August 2012.
The 2011 Mental Health Nurse of the Year will be announced at the Annual ACMHN Oration and Investiture of Members at the 38th Annual International Conference in Darwin.
