Better Access to Mental Health Services
The Better Access to Mental Health Services initiative, with funding of $538 million over five years, aims to increase community access to mental health professionals.

A key component of this initiative is the introduction of new MBS items for clinical psychologists and other allied health practitioners to provide up to 12 psychological services in 12 months + 12 group therapy sessions, on referral from a general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician.

Mental Health Nurses in private practice will continue to have access to the Enhanced Primary Care Initiative (otherwise known as the Chronic Disease Initiative) under the Medicare Allied Health Initiative.
