POSTAL ADDRESSBranch Secretary Donna Hodgson is a credentialed Mental Health Nurse (MHN) who was awarded the National Mental Health Nurse of the Year in 2009 by the ACMHN for her outstanding contribution to the education and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate nurses in the field of mental health. Donna is passionate about ensuring the connection between the theory and practice of mental health nursing, and supporting the personal development of nurses working in the field of mental health. Since commencing nursing in mental health in 1991, Donna has worked in a variety of roles, including Clozapine Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Consultant in Canberra’s acute adult inpatient unit, and Community Clinical Manager. Donna has a strong focus on consumer rights, and the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental illness in the community. Some of this passion for advocacy stems from Donna's personal experience after acquiring a permanent disability following a car accident in 2000. All who know Donna are awed by her immense knowledge base, and also her commitment to mental health nursing and nurses. Branch ChairCatherine Hungerford Catherine Hungerford is a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health), and a credentialed Mental Health Nurse (MHN). She has wide experience in the clinical, education, management and research streams of mental health nursing, in a variety of rural and metropolitan contexts. Catherine convenes the post graduate courses in mental health nursing at the University of Canberra, and works hard to ensure that these courses reflect her passion for bridging the divide between the academic and practice contexts. In addition to being the current Chair of the ACT Branch of the ACMHN, Catherine sits on the Research Committee and Credentialing Committee of the College. Like Donna, Catherine is committed to supporting the professional and practice development of nurses working in mental health. However, Catherine’s style is somewhat different to Donna’s – which no doubt explains why the local refer to them as “Ying and Yang”. Together, they make a great team!
