pregnancy-counsellingNon-directive pregnancy support counselling Medicare items became available on 1 November 2006 to assist women who are concerned about a pregnancy. The Medicare funded services are available from eligible GPs (including a general practitioner, but not including a specialist or consultant physician), and from credentialed mental health nurses, psychologists, and social workers, when the woman is referred by a GP. MBS item 81010 is the specific service provided by Credentialed Mental Health Nurses.

Before members of any of the above professions can provide the counselling service, they are required to undertake the mandatory course that has been developed by their designated organisation. In case of nurses, Credentialed mental health nurses must undertake the 81010 Non-Directive Pregnancy Counseling Training for Mental Health Nurses developed by the ACMHN.

When you have finished the program and successfully completed the assessment, you will be provided with a Certificate of Completion and your name will be forwarded to Medicare Australia identifying you as being eligible to register for the MBS item number 81010.

You can login and exit the course modules at any time from registration until successful completion of the course.

You must register in order to access the course. The registration process will take a few minutes. You will need your membership number and your Credentialed Mental health Nurse number to log in. As a current member of the ACMHN you do not have to pay a registration fee.
